MILQUEBARTH releases F.Fashionistas Mix
MILQUEBARTH is the solo project of Hobart drummer Sam Dowson (Lazer Baby, The Lawless Quartet, Mephistopheles). Armed only with an iPad and iMPC, MILQUEBARTH makes beats that are eclectic and experimental, mixing dirty bass, buzzing synths, and crunchy percussion.
MILQUEBARTH recently filmed and recorded "F.Fashionistas Mix" as part of the Songs from the Edge (SFTE) program. Supported by UTAS, SFTE brings together Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music tech students with professional music makers to produce live film clips in unique locations. You can check them all out here.
"F.Fashionistas Mix" was filmed and recorded live in the industrial Goods Shed on Hobart’s waterfront with support from the Macquarie Point Development Corporation.
According to MILQUEBARTH, the aim of this project has always been to "throw succulent chops against the butcher's window and see what sticks. Due to the nature of essentially making live arrangements on original and unoriginal samples, it's driven largely by improvisation and dairy-based dance-scapes". The track “can be at times quite chaotic and demonstrates how you can throw a multitude of stylistic ideas essentially under the one genre umbrella”.
For MILQUEBARTH the narrative of the clip is pretty simple “I wanted clowns, I wanted milk, I wanted filth and I wanted 808’s. That's it. The story is straightforward and I'm so lucky to have been able to work with Dave Carter and the UTAS team to produce something that I'm really proud of.”
Recorded, edited and mixed by Bianca Birt, Callum Williams, Nick Van Ommen-Brown and Rikin Sharma from UTAS.
Featuring performances by Sam Dowson, Sam Cawley and Arun Roberts.
